Tom's Featured Tip: Words

For the sake of simplicity, all advice on swings and drills is provided from a right handed perspective; lefties .... well, you know what to do!

I was watching an interview with Jon Gordon on The Golf Channel last week and he said several things that got my wheels turning.

Jon is a prolific author, speaker, consultant for sports and business organizations, and overall coach in a lot of different disciplines. Since he gave me some good ideas for this weeks newsletter, I feel that it's fair to give his website a plug: JonGordon.com, where you can find his books and other information.

Jon mentioned two things of interest for golf, as well as for life, that I wanted to share.

First he mentioned that although goals are great - and I concur - he also mentioned that he uses a simpler technique to keep him on track from year to year.

He uses the power of One Word to maintain a positive and productive frame of mind.

The more I thought about it, the more I liked the simplicity of the concept. It's very easy to overburden yourself with too many thoughts or goals. I've done that personally, so I'm willing to give this a try. I'm going to give one word top of mind awareness for my endeavors.

The one word that is going to be foremost in my mind this year is resolve.

I believe that I have a good amount of it, but I'm trying for more in my golf, my workouts, and my life in general.

Pick one word for your own golf efforts and give it top of mind awareness, I'm thinking that it will make a difference.

The other thing he mentioned that was directly related to golf was that he keeps these three words foremost in his thought process for decisions related to golf endeavors:
  1. Fun
  2. Faith
  3. Fearless
I like them all, with one caveat. Fearless should not be confused with Reckless.

In my opinion, your level of fearlessness should correlate with your practice commitment, because if you're prepared you won't be scared. Prepare well and be fearless would be my adjustment to that word.

These two bundles of words of wisdom from Jon Gordon made a lot of sense to me, so much so that I'm suggesting that each of you read these words over a few times and act accordingly!

Tour Greens: Tour Quality Synthetic Greens For Realistic Short Game Practice

How great would it be to have a short game practice area in the privacy of your yard for practice, or for friendly competition with your kids, your wife, or your friends? Perhaps even a friendly wager or two at home parties?

If the idea of having your own practice area that can help your short game, be fun for the family, and looks great in your yard appeals to you, you're in luck.

In addition to my golf instruction business, I am also the exclusive Western New York sales associate for Tour Greens Western New York.

With Tour Greens you can experience the ultimate home short game practice solution.

Read what Tour Pro's Fred Couples, Rich Beem, Boo Weekly, Blake Adams, and Chris DiMarco  have to say about their Tour Greens.

You all know me well enough to know that I don't affiliate with any product that I don't have a passionate belief in. These greens are the real deal. They are extremely durable - they can even withstand our challenging WNY winters.

For more information and a photo gallery of installed residential Tour Greens, please click here: Tour Greens Photos and Information, and of course please feel free to call me or email me for more information.

Health, Wellness, Fitness: Light Exposure For Physique Benefits!

Disclaimer: DO NOT PERFORM ANY STRENUOUS PHYSICAL EXERCISE LIKE THE ONE LISTED BELOW, WITHOUT CONSULTING YOUR DOCTOR.

During my health and wellness research, I saw an article that mentioned the value of a good nights sleep AS WELL AS the value of adequate light exposure for your physique!

The reason it caught my eye is that I was apparently onto something thirty some years ago when I was in the State Police.

At the time I was a supervisor and noticed that I made more administrative mistakes when I worked the night shift than when I worked the day shift.

I had just finished doing some research on how working nights reduced your strength levels due to a disruption of growth hormone production (adrenal cortical secretions) when your sleep was fragmented, so I decided to do some research on how light levels affected production.

My research concluded that more light equaled less mistakes in an office environment, more so for night shift work.

So I went to the landlord and asked him to install more lighting that would essentially double the normally required lumens for the station where I worked at the time.

The the difference was remarkable: less mistakes, more energy, more alertness.

Fast forward to the present, and I read an article extolling the myriad of benefits associated with the correct amount of UV light exposure as it relates to your health AND PHYSIQUE!

The article is too long to include in this newsletter, so here's a link to it: Let There Be Light: 10 New Studies to Enlighten You About the Health Effects of Light Exposure on Health & Physique

It's definitely worth a read.

Nutrition:  Get Your Daily Essentials

Do you lack energy, sleep poorly, or feel generally lousy a lot of the time?

If that describes you, maybe it's time to try the Isotonix Daily Essentials Kit supplements that I personally use daily.

If you haven't tried them yet, why the heck not?

Note that they are called Daily Essentials - not Daily Optionals - for a reason!
Simply said - if our body doesn't make it, we need to take it. These all-natural supplements have made a profound difference in my health. I used to take high blood pressure and cholesterol medication, and I now have normal blood pressure and normal cholesterol levels and take none of those medications anymore.

In fact, all of my blood work is perfect.

The only change I made to get off these medications was taking my Daily Essentials, and that's not even why I started taking them, it was a side benefit. I started taking it to increase my energy, and it did that too!

Why the heck not give it a try?

How to take your Isotonix Daily Essentials

Tom's Bonus Tip: Props To BCC

For the sake of simplicity, all advice on swings and drills is provided from a right handed perspective; lefties .... well, you know what to do!

I was going through my 250 or so emails per day and clicked on a Golf Digest article that listed the "Top 100 Golf Courses in The Country."

When I got to that page, there was a link to a website that rated public play courses by state, so of course I clicked on New York State.

When I got to that site, I searched for the Batavia Country Club, one of this newsletters sponsors, and saw that it had earned a Four Star Rating!

This link will get you there: http://courses.golfdigest.com/d/s/New-York then go to the search box in the left column and enter Batavia Country Club to see their rating.

For the record, I'm not getting paid for this additional publicity for BCC. I mention this rating because it's a great place to play. It's a course that let's you use all the clubs in your bag, has the best greens in WNY, and is probably the best bargain in WNY as well.

So congratulations and well done to BCC, I'm glad that a national publication gave them their due.

If you've never played the course, make sure to put it on your golf itinerary for 2015.
