==================================================== Newsletter - Issue 92 Date 03/27/09 ==================================================== ==================================================== Equipment - Books - DVD's - Instruction ==================================================== I just bought a Speed Stik - http://www.thespeedstik.com/ and can tell after a couple of practice sessions that I like it a lot. It gives you immediate swing speed feedback, which is great if your goal is to develop more swing speed and you don't have a swing speed radar or other device for checking your swing speed. I got the red one, and in the DVD that comes with it, they say that the blue model gives you the closest mph reading to what your driver swing speed actually is. That may or may not be so. Any model will tell you if you are making gains or not, so if you get one - get the model that is suitable for your strength or gender. It's also useful as a stretching aid, it's a pretty versatile tool. I think that the website is now selling them for around $50, full retail is around $99. You can hunt one down on Ebay for half price or less using the keywords: speed stik If you go the Ebay route, look for one that includes the instructional DVD, it's excellent. ==================================================== TCT Quick Tips - Which Set of Tees Should I Use? ==================================================== Golf is supposed to be fun, but a lot of players let their egos get in the way of their enjoyment by playing from tees which make the game too difficult. Here is what you should take into consideration when you decide which tees to play: if you can't reach every green in regulation playing your best shots, move to a set of tees where you can. ==================================================== Golf Tip : Short Putts ==================================================== This tip is short but very sweet. On putts that are 7 feet long or shorter, it is very important to keep unnecessary motion out of your stroke. When I want students to increase some lower body movement in a golf swing, I ask them to keep their stance relatively narrow and to feel like their knees are pressing inward, like they are knock-kneed. When I want a student to restrict lower body movement, I ask then to adopt a slightly wider than normal stance and to feel like their knees are pressing outward, like they are bow legged. I had this training aid brainstorm at about 11 pm when I was watching TV last week and jotted it down. To develop the feel for an outward pressing of your knees, try wrapping a luggage strap or web belt around your knees when you are addressing a putt with your normal stance, then widen your stance by about one half inch and press outward with your knees so that the strap feels tight. Now stroke a putt. I guarantee that your lower body is frozen, which gives you one less thing to worry about in your putting. That's a good thing. You can't use a strap during actual play, but if you do a few reps on the practice green - or even in your living room, you'll develop the feel and you will be able to take it to the course. Enjoy, Tom
